  1. Nueva Actualizacion!!!!

    Hi everyone,

this is a program that I've written to allow you all to play around with Lara's model from TRU.

You can move individual bones of the model in realtime.

    Here are the links (4shared.com):

Main program + the default model (Lara Jungle Shorts):

XNA Lara 2.1 (approx. 9 MB)

    Optional data packs:

(unpack these to the directory XNALara\data)

Lara Jungle Heavy (approx. 8.5 MB)

    Lara Wetsuit (approx. 9.5 MB)

    Doppelganger (approx. 8 MB)

    Natla (approx. 6 MB)

    Amelia (approx. 5 MB)

    Update: version 2.1

    - new model: Amelia

    - program distribution split into one main plus multiple optional data packs for convenience

    - added support for custom background image

    - fixed transparency bug with Doppelganger's irises

    - enabled numeric input of angles via textboxes

    Major update: version 2.0

    - multiple characters in one scene

    - GUI/3D controls apply to the selected character

    - possible to position each character in the scene (Ctrl+LMB click on the ground)

    - new GUI slider: vertical position of the selected character

    - new Dummy object (custom camera target)

    - lockable camera and character selection

Beware that the 'Save pose' command only saves the pose of the currently selected character!

The 3D model, textures and bones used in this program are extracted directly from TRU's bigfiles using my other program UnpackTRU.

I put all the data together and wrote a program in XNA/Direct3D to render the model in 3D in realtime, utilizing my own vertex and pixel shaders. I also added a graphical interface for controlling the bones and this is the result:

You DON'T NEED Tomb Raider: Underworld to run this program.

On the other hand, you WILL NEED Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft XNA Framework to run it.

The mouse and keyboard controls are as follows:

left mouse drag ... rotate the camera

right mouse drag ... zoom the camera

left mouse click ... select a bone

Ctrl+left mouse click/drag ... position character in scene

    Numpad1, 2 or 3 or Q, W, E AND left mouse drag ... rotate the bone around the X, Y or Z axis

You can choose the current camera target ("look at") from a drop-down list of predefined points of interest.

It's also possible to import and export Lara's poses from/to files using the menu.

Use the menu to set display/render options.

    Enjoy :)

  2. I'm afraid I don't understand the question. The exported PNG image is basically a screenshot of the current 3D view. Plus, you can choose whether you want the background to be transparent in the PNG or not.

Do you have the model (including bones and textures)?

If not, I'd have to decipher the AOD data format first which if an incredible amount of work. I did this for TRU (and about two years ago partially for TRL - the level meshes - and based on this experience I don't want to do any more deciphering now because it's nothing but frustrating most of the time, and really exhausting too ;))

Hahaha, no, I certainly don't work for Core, Eidos or Crystal Dynamics.

All I had were the bigfiles as such and a hex-editor. Nothing more than that, certainly no documentation. I spent several weeks merely with the hex-editor, a pencil and loads of sheets of paper, trying to find patterns and dependences in those binary bigfiles. It was insane. I had no idea when I started how much work it would eventually turn out to be. :)

You're right, it's a bug, I'll look into that. Thanks.

I already promised Amelia will come next (even though Amanda would probably be a more appropriate choice now). So Amelia first, Amanda second.

The way I imagine it is that you'd select one or more bones in the hierarchical tree and only those bones (plus all their subtrees) would be effected. The most complicated part would be the GUI (as always), the rest is rather trivial :)

I think I'll focus now on adding new characters again for a while, but once I start implementing new program functions, this may be one of them since quite some people have already asked for this...

By the way, the next update will make it possible to assign a custom background image to the 3D view (I implemented it this evening).

    AMANDAAAAA =/ cry
